BAYONNE--Bayonne's senior first baseman James Tyminski had never hit a walk off home run.

Not in little league. Not in all-stars. Not in high school.

That changed on Monday when the Bayonne Bees hosted St. Peter's Prep at Don Ahern Veterans Memorial Stadium.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the bases loaded and the score deadlocked at 3-3, Tyminski ripped a two-strike fastball over the left field fence to lead Bayonne to a 7-4 walk-off victory.

"I was fighting that whole at-bat," Tyminski, who was two-for-four with five RBI, said. "I was looking for a good fastball. Something straight. Nothing below my hands. I just wanted to get a good piece of it. I wasn't even thinking (when the ball came off my bat) to be honest. I haven't hit a home run in years. I'm just happy to help my team win."

Entering the seventh inning, Bayonne trailed St. Peter's Prep, 3-2. Its rally began when Ryan Guthrie was hit by a pitch with one out. He advanced to second when Brian Baranok reached on an error. Dillon Tyler doubled down the right field line to score Guthrie and put runners on second and third.

St. Peter's Prep brought in Jarred Rosso for Matteo Sollecito and intentionally walked Shane Paradine to load the bases. Rosso struck out Alex Medina for the inning's second out before Tyminski ended the game with his walk-off grand slam.

Tyminski's walk-off moment was a well-deserved.

He has had to overcome plenty of adversity after missing his sophomore season with a broken arm and breaking a bone in his leg during offseason workouts this year.

While the offseason injury got him off to a slow start,

Bayonne coach Dave Hoffman has seen a noticeable improvement of late.

"He's just kind of getting himself going again," Hoffman said. "He's getting his rhythm back. He's such a big part of our team. He has a lot of energy...You root for kids in that spot to come through in the clutch. We just wanted a walk, a hit batsman, anything to get that run across, but he came through in dramatic fashion and I couldn't be happier for him."

Bayonne was playing catchup for the entire game after St. Peter's Prep jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first. Matt McDermott led off the game with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch, while Jack Carey scored on a bases loaded walk to Jeremiah Guzman.

St. Peter's Prep increased its lead to 3-0 when pitcher Paul Cuccinelli reached on an error and Carey came across in the top of the fourth.

Cuccinelli continued to hold St. Peter's Prep's lead until the top of the sixth.

After getting Guthrie to fly out to start the inning, he allowed a single to Baranok and a double to Tyler to put runners at second and third. Baranok scored on a RBI, infield single from Paradine, while Tyler came across on a RBI single from Tyminski to cut Bayonne's deficit to 3-2.

The score would stay that way as Sollecito got Bayonne out of the jam and Guthrie pitched a perfect top of the seventh to set the stage for Tyminski's heroics.

"We just had to keep pushing (when we were down)," Tyminski said. "Our bench just got up (heading into the seventh inning). All the energy came back."

Guthrie was the game's winning pitcher after throwing one inning, while Sollecito earned the loss allowing two runs, one earned in 2/3 innings.

Cuccinelli started for St. Peter's Prep and allowed two earned on nine hits through five and 2/3 innings with one strike out and no walks. Chris Bergalowski was Bayonne's starter and allowed three earned runs in on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work.
