Maine And The Democrats’ Gay Marriage Problem | Welcome to help the web site, in this moment I'll demonstrate in relation to keyword. And now, this is the first picture:
Think about image about Maine And The Democrats’ Gay Marriage Problem earlier mentioned?
Today progressive strategists spent quite a lot of time wondering why voters in Maine didn’t support gay marriage.
Within many of the stories came the statistic that in each of the 31 states that have tried the ballot measure, gay marriage has been defeated.
I’d like to offer a completely naïve solution, but one that is true even in its wishful thinking.
Democrats have to start nominating presidential candidates that go to bat for gay marriage. Republicans aren’t going to – not our lifetimes.
It’s up to Democrats.
Yet how many times have the socially progressive among us watched yet another campaign where no Democratic candidates with a realistic chance at the nomination fully support gay marriage?
They always equivocate and say they believe marriage should be between a man and a woman.
Yes, everyone gets the wink and the nod, but the fact of the matter is that the country gets this message: There is something fundamentally wrong with gay marriage.
Why else would an otherwise progressive politician running for the highest office in the land suggest otherwise?
Even Barack Obama (the uniter!) shuns the topic. Though he stumped in New Jersey and Virginia, he left the gay marriage supporters in Maine out in the cold.
The only message Maine Street gets from that is: “By God, them gays ought not be marrying.”
I know gay couples that have been together happily for decades. They’re almost always good progressives.
Where is the president for them?
